What is the impact of deep learning technology and open research questions?

This session will be an interactive discussion about the impact and current challenges of AI research. In addition, Sara will share an overview of her own journey to research, and advice for individuals or organizations that want to start applying machine learning to local problems. For more advanced attendees, the speaker will be available for questions and a more technical discussion following the main talk.

About Sara Hooker

Sara Hooker is an Artificial Intelligence resident at Google Brain. She does deep learning research on deep neural network interpretability and security. Prior to Google, Sara was a recommendation and fraud machine learning engineer at Udemy. She enjoys the impact of both applied machine learning and pure research and often speaks publicly about what is needed for each to have the most impact. She spent her childhood in Africa, growing up in Swaziland, South Africa, Mozambique Lesotho and Kenya. Her family currently resides in Monrovia, Liberia. In 2014, she founded Delta Analytics, a 501(c)3 non-profit entirely run by technical volunteers that is dedicated to bringing technical capacity to help non-profits and communities across the world use machine learning for good.
